People of Antediluvian: Nephilim and Faustlings

Well Met Travellers,

Welcome to another worldbuilding session. Last Time I wrote one of these articles, I wrote about The Chosen, a race of Intellectual and artistic undead who are the chosen of the death god. More Recently, Owl published a post about Mantir'ii, a race of magically gifted mantis-men.

This time, I will write about the Nephilim and Faustlings, the children of Elysian and Araqoric Entities respectively.

Faustlings and Nephilim appear in very dark contrast to one another, while both can be born among any race in the world, their heritage creates vastly different appearances.

First, the Faustling is a creature born of a Demon or some form of Demonic entity. Faustlings show their demonic heritage, often sporting horns and a tail. These features can vary dramatically from Faustling to Faustling as some may have horns that are more like rams, while other have horns more akin to gazelles. Their skin tones tend to be colorful and vibrant, running from red, orange, and black to shades like blue, purple, and green. Faustling Eye Color is usually solid in color, and these colors could be just as varied as skin tone, but eyes and skin are almost never the same color. The first Faustlings were born from relations between a demon named Faust who took human form in an attempt to spread his spawn across the world, and while not all Faustlings are related to Faust, the name kind of stuck.

Nephilim are creatures born to some form of celestial creature, whether that creature is an Angel, Archon, or some other form of Celestial. Their holy heritage reflects in their appearance. Nephilim are often fairer in appearance than the typical creature of their race. Any natural features of the race they are born to are enhanced, leading to Nephilim having a reputation for being more beautiful than those of the rest of their race. Their eyes often have golden or silver irises, which blends with some races normal eye color. Occasionally Nephilim are born with wings or halos which reveal their presence among the populace, and it gives most races a sense that the child was born to do great things. The First Nephilim were born to an angel Named Nephilia. She was sent to Antediluvian on a mission to purge some lesser demons from a village in Ioshon. In the process, Nephilia fell for a Mortal man with whom she had several children, all of whom were Nephilim. While not all Nephilim are born from her, the name became a convenient way to describe these half-angel creatures.

There is no standard clothing style among the Faustlings or Nephilim because these creatures are born among populations with their own clothing styles. Faustlings and Nephilim will wear the clothes of the culture that they were raised in, so a Faustling Orc will wear orcish clothing and a Nephilim Elf will wear elven clothing.

Again, because this race is born among other races, their culture tends to be the culture of the people around them; however, in some places, there may be a culture that grows up around them. In some places, as has been said, the birth of a Nephilim is seen as a good omen. In these cultures, the Nephilim may be given a position of great importance among the people, for example in the Elven land of Argenost, the Reliram family produces a Nephilim each generation, and these Nephilim are charged with protecting the temple. In the Draconian Empire, Nephilim are given training in Sorcery to induct them into the upper echelons of society.

Faustlings are often viewed with suspicion by many. Their demonic heritage often causes others to suspect them or their family of dabbling with demonology. This is not always true, but it often causes many cultures to orphan Faustlings or to keep them at a distance. For example, in Mistdale, Faustlings are forced to be manual laborers, working in mines, docks, and other places where physical labor is difficult. On the other hand, some cultures are more aware of how these creatures are made and accept them. For example, Highthorn and Liegeheim tend to understand that a Faustling may be born because of something that happened to an individual in the family thousands of years ago.

Recently, It has been noted that a few small villages composed mostly of Faustlings and Nephilim have begun to develop. In these places, the two races try to live in harmony, ignoring their blood in hopes of building a better future.

Most of the time, there is no government among the Faustlings or Nephilim, for they live mostly among other races. However, in the rare case where the Faustlings and/or Nephilim have formed a society, they usually build it as a society with democratically elected leaders.

Nephilim tend to have an affinity for divine and natural magic, for their bloodline it tethered intrinsically to the realm of the gods and spirits. Faustlings are tied to arcane and Divine magic, for magical tomes are one way in which demons transmit profane magic, and the Vadhumal, the dark god and creator of demons is often willing to grant magic to them if the other gods won't.

The average lifespan of Faustlings and Nephilim is right around 115-120 years. Nephilim are known for innately understanding the Language of Celestials (each word they understand in their native language, they understand it in Elysian). Faustlings share the same quality, but rather than understanding Elysian, they understand Araqoric.

One thing that needs to be acknowledged is what happens when Nephilim and Faustlings have children. (In this case, I am assuming that both parents are Human) In most cases, if a Faustling or Nephilim has a child with a human, the child will be human. In some cases, the child will be either a Faustling or Nephilim (depending on the parent). If both parents are Faustlings or Nephilim, the child will be a Faustling or Nephilim.

One other Scenario that needs to be addressed is what happens when a Faustling and a Nephilim have a child. This is a very gloomy situation, for in most cases, the angelic and demonic blood tear the child apart. The child often dies in utero or not long after birth as the duality of its bloodline is not well accepted by the universe. However, in one out of every thousand cases of a Faustling-Nephilim pregnancy, the child survives birth and lives into adulthood. Children like this are called Demolus, half-demon, half-angel. These creatures carry the power of both the Heavens and the Hells. They are both feared and admired, and their lot in life is what they make of it.

The common appearance of a Demolus is a mix between angelic and demonic, they may have horns with pale skin and other angelic traits, or they may have demonic skin and a halo. It is not fully understood how they can appear because so few of their kind exist.
