People of Antediluvian: Mantir'ii

Hello adventurers! It has been a while since I last posted but I have been quite busy with schoolwork; however, this did not stop me from working on a few posts that will be coming in the near future. As you all may know, there are many races in the world of Antediluvian. The one that I will be covering today is the Mantir'ii, an insectoid race of mantis people.

There are two sub-races of Mantir'ii, the Tesserapods and the Dyadopods. The Tesserapods have existed much longer than the Dyadopods. They have been around since the beginning of life on Antediluvian, as one of the first races to be taught magic by the Titans. The Dyadopods began due to a malfunction in a spell that a novice Tesserapod mage cast, this led to an entire town being infected with a magical curse that distorts the embryos during incubation. These malformed beings were cast out by the Tesserapods and were exiled to more barren areas across Antediluvian. The Dyadopods were quite enraged with the Tesserapods and have been fighting with their cousins ever since their exilement.

Both Tesserapods and Dyadopods have a special set of mandibles which allow them to speak in their native tongue, Chik'tou. It sounds much like a bunch of clicks to speakers of other languages and is near impossible for someone of another race to learn, due to the lack of these mandibles. Because of this, the Mantir'ii cannot speak a language outside of their own. They do, however, have the capability to communicate through telepathic means with others.

Even though there is this mass hatred between the two races of Mantir'ii, there does exist a place where Tesserapod and Dyadopod can coexist peacefully. In Helgiran, colloquially called the Forsaken Lands, a continent devasted by magical storms and unusual phenoma, the Colony of Tikar'aa dwells. Tikar'aa, a city built in a prodigious canyon, is considered to be the capital city for the Mantir'ii. With a spell of peace that encircles the settlement, a member of either Mantir'ii subrace could walk into the city and greet one another without malice in their hearts. In this settlement, Tesserapods and Dyadopods will work alongside each other, help each other, and mate with one another. The Mantir'ii have turned this fissure in the ground into one of the most prosperous cities. By combining the talents of either race, they created many magical and technological advances together that is a wonder to be seen by outsiders.

Tesserapods

Tesserapods, as depicted below, walk on four of their six appendages. This sacrifice of being able to wield more in hand provides better speed and agility than their kin. The Tesserapods are considered to be the pure race of Mantir'ii. They tend to think highly of themselves as opposed to their bipedal cousins. They build civilized villages and towns with a plethora of technological and magical advances that are an envy to many. Tesserapods tend to focus towards more skilled practices such as scholars, mages, or fencers. You will find those skilled in the practice of tinkering and enchanting and much more. However, not all Tesserapods follow in their culture and practice such as their ancestors. Some will travel off in search of adventure, whether thats the high seas or on a religious excursion. This, however, can be quite rare as most Tesserapods prefer their own race to others.

The culture of the Tesserapods is considered to be quite civil. They choose a Council of Five to govern the everyday actions of the common folk. Each city chooses their own Council, normally comprised of the head members of different aspects of the city: the head cleric, the high mage, the head of commerce, the high scholar, and the high priestess. The council controls all governmental rules and regulations and dictates the laws as accordingly. Each member is in charge of their domain: the head cleric manages all forms of medicine and hospitilaztion, the high mage is responsible for all aspects of magic, the head of commerce oversees all wealth, trading, and sales, the high scholar is in charge of all education, and the high priestess orchestrates all religion practiced in the city. Together, they also manage all forms of military.

Dyadopods

Dyadopods, as shown below, walk on two feet and instead have four arms. By having two extra appendages that can wield items, this makes them quite adept in multiple forms of combat as well as overall strength. As an outcasted race, they live in secluded villages and tribes. You can find them in the depths of the jungles as well as the barren dunes of the deserts. The Dyadopods are more inclined to be fighters of all sorts, whether that's as barbarians, rogues, or even as hunters/rangers. Their villages tend to look quite primitive, however, that could not be further from the truth. They inherited some of their cousins' natural ability to tinker and have created some more advanced "primitive" tools, weapons, and living arrangements.

The culture of the Dyadopods is very tribal. They have a village shaman that serves as a leader and guide to their everyday lives. They dictate the rules that each tribe follows as well as their practices. This could be as simple as their eating habits or as complex as how they practice their religion.  These shaman are selected by the ancestral spirits whenever a shaman passes. As the leaders of the tribes, the shaman also have to settle disputes and allow for community bonding. This has led to arenas being constructed for scheduled and unscheduled duels and fights. These arenas resemble that of Petranaki Arena on the planet of Geonisis from the Star Wars Universe. Often, the Dyadopods will pit prisoners against one another to earn their freedom.
