People of Antediluvian:Minotaur

Well Met Travelers,

Welcome to another of my world building sessions. The last time I did a post like this, I wrote about the Fungals, a Mushroom race that protects the deep places of the world.

This week, I'll be delving into a race common to many RPG worlds, the Minotaur. This race is going to be different from those in most worlds.

The Minotaur race appears much as one would expect; they are a humanoid race that has the visage of bulls and cattle. Minotaur usually stand taller than most races, standing between six and seven feet tall. They are usually hardy of build, and Large horns rest upon the tops of their heads. Their fur comes in many colors, the most common being browns, blacks, and grey, but white fur also exists (this marks the minotaur as having a great destiny among the minotaur people). Their eye color ranges through the normal spectrum, but amber and brown are the most common colors. Instead of feet, Minotaur have

The minotaur clothing style is very interesting. These people come from an island in a fairly warm climate, and their clothing account for this is much lighter. Minotaur typically wear togas and light tabbards, which allow their skin and fur to breath in the humid and uncomfortable regions of their home. These clothes are often light colors to help reflect the heat of the sun.

Minotaur culture is one of freedom. Their governmental structure is not restrictive. Being that the Minotaur live on an island, their culture has become a culture of sailing. In minotaur culture, there are no obscure cast systems, nor are any members of society considered more important than others. This is a society is one of equality, for minotaurs appreciate all life in their society and life in general. The Minotaur Society is also interesting because of their use of the guild system. These merchant guilds mean that every Minotaur is involved with a trade or craft; this means that minotaur-made goods are often of a higher quality than other goods (save metalworks, dwarves still excel here). This system combined with the Minotaur's natural peaceful demeanor has led to a vast trading empire.

The magic of the Minotaur is unique, for they share a connection with nature and the divine that others cannot attain. The Minotaur were created by Evelune, the goddess of life. This is part of what has given them the peaceful nature that they embody, and it has imbued them with the devout respect for all life. Their connection to Evelune makes minotaur into powerful life clerics and healers. Their respect for all life has earned them the respect of nature, and with this respect, Minotaur find it easier to harness the magic of the natural world.

Minotaur share one of the most unique governmental systems On Antediluvian,  for while most civilizations have kings, councils, emperors, and elders as leaders, Minotaur believe in the concept of popular sovereignty. The minotaur governmental system is a democracy. The Minotaur people vote for a singular leader who will handle diplomatic affairs with other nations, and each province of the minotaur nation appoints a minister to levy laws and deal with a centralized government in the capital city.

The Language of the Minotaur is called Bovic. It is a language of echoing hollow sounds; it also contains many drawn-out sounds. Minotaur lifespan of the average minotaur is about 90-95 years.

Marriage and Funerary Customs

The Minotaur marriage ritual involves a cleric of Evelune binding the minotaur with a vine ritually cut from the oldest tree in the province. After binding the couple's horns together, the cleric incants a prayer for long life, happy times, and deep love. The vine is then unwrapped from the horns and kept in the home as a sign of the marriage fr the ritual of marriage magically preserves the vine as long as the marriage is healthy.

Funerary customs involve a long grieving process by the family. During this time, every guild in the city or village contributes something to the construction of a funeral barge with which the deceased will be set to sea. Once the grieving process is endured and the ship built the deceased minotaur is placed on the barge, a cleric intones a prayer for safe travels into the afterlife, and a druid or some other natural caster conjures a tidal wave to send the barge below the waves.
