People of Antediluvian: Humans

Well Met Travelers,

Welcome to another world building session. Last time, I covered the Minotaur, a race of humanoid bulls who respect life.

This week, I will cover one of the most common races in the fantasy genre, Humans.

The appearance of the human race is as varied as the number of stars in the sky. I assume most of us know what humans look like because most of us are humans. Humans usually stand between 5 and 6 feet tall. Humans can have all types of builds, from very slender and thin to huge and muscular. Human skin tone runs from very pale to rich deep Umber in color. Hair color can run from platinum blonde, through brown, red, and even black. Human eye color runs the gambit from brown, green, blue, amber, and hazel.

Human clothing varies vastly throughout the different human civilizations. A lot of human clothing is designed for the environment in which they live. Human clothing can range from bright colored to dull in color. The culture of these people will also change the clothing styles, for the Merchant lords of Warcloak's Rest are going to wear far more elegant clothes than the human nomads of the Sea of Grass.

Human culture cannot be summarised, for humans are cultural borrowers. The human race once had their own culture, but exposure to the other races lead to borrowing and modifying those cultures. This has lead to an interesting variety of cultures that humans embody.

When it comes to magic, humans are not more receptive to any kind of magic than another. Humans, having been one of the first races to be born (alongside the Minotaur), have the capacity to learn any form of magic, but few humans can ever master any form of magic in the way that other, magically attuned races can.

Human governments also cannot be neatly organized. They adapted the Monarchy from the elves. They adapted council-based governments from the dwarves. Tribal elders were adapted from the Gnomes. The humans use all of these governments plus a few that they have invented a few governments of their own such as a government run by merchant lords.

The language of humans is called (originally) human. The Human dialect from the region known as Smolder in the Thunder Lands evolved into the language known as common. The average lifespan of a human is somewhere between 90-100 years.

Marriage and Funerary Customs

While much of the ancient human culture was lost to the world, Human Marriage customs seems to be the same across the world. The marriage ritual involves a priest of any god reciting the traditional rites of binding and love. These rights enchant a ring for each of the two lovers, and these enchanted rings bring health and prosperity to the couple.

The funerary custom of the Humans also dates back to the ancient days of the race. These rituals involve a three-day ritual in which human priests incant rituals and bless the body with the holy oils of their religion. After this three day ritual, the body is either buried, burned, or entombed within a crypt.

I believe that is all for this week.

Until Next Time,
Farewell and Safe Journeys, Travellers.
