Echos of Eldritch Major Players: Rinn Liadon

Hail fellow well met,

It has been a while since I've last posted because I have been busy with the return of school. I managed to find the time to finish this for you all. Enjoy!

Rinn is my first Major Player in the Echos of Eldritch world; he is also the first character that I ever made. As Weasel said in his introduction to Ander Shattersoul, Rinn is a member of the Brotherhood of the Whispering Ring. I guess the only way to being with Rinn is to start from the beginning.

"I was abandoned in the forest as a newborn when my village was attacked. It was destroyed by a group of renegade orcs and everyone, including my mother and father, was slaughtered. Some Wood Elves were wandering the forest on patrol when they found me. They took pity on me and brought me back to their village that was secluded and hidden deep within the forest. I was raised by the chieftain and his wife, who had recently lost their child. They granted me their last name Liadon, which means Silverfrond in common, and they game me the Elven name, Rinn, even though I was a Human. I was hated by the other Elves growing up. I didn't fit in. Even though I was disliked, I continued to try my best at impressing them by practicing my archery and swordplay. My skills began to hone and eventually proved me worthy enough of joining the men on their hunts, At the age of 22, a wizard by the name of Ander Shattersoul visited my village. He told me of his travels and I became fascinated by them. I decided to leave my home and travel the realm with him. I said goodbye to my adopted parents and went on my way. I found work by protecting others, protecting the innocent at any cost. I won't let what happened to me, happen again."

After Rinn had been traveling with Ander for a short while, Rinn was walking through the forest when he was attacked out of nowhere. The next thing he knew, he was wrapped in a cocoon of spiderwebs and was paralyzed and felt this immense pain coursing through his body. So, he focused on his breathing and meditated through the pain for 3 whole days before his body began to grow accustomed to the poison in his bloodstream. He began to feel himself regain control over his body. He managed to grab his sword and cut himself out of the spider's web. As his feet hit the ground, he saw the monstrous beast appear. He had only heard tales of the Phase Spider and did not believe in it until he had seen it with his own eyes. Feeling the power he now had access to, the spider did a most unexpected thing; instead of attacking Rinn, it instead, bowed to him and allowed him to leave. It was almost as if the spider saw Rinn as one of its own. Rinn ran off in search of Ander to tell him what had happened. As he was running through the forest, he felt something weird inside him and in the blink of an eye, was in the same forest but everything was.... different. He saw everything in shades of white and time seemed to slow down around him. He was so baffled by this and started to run even faster towards where Ander last was.

When he found Ander, he tried to get his attention but Ander couldn't hear him. He went and touched Ander but found that his hand went right through him. Ander, being the powerful mage that he was, sensed this presence and cast a spell that allowed him to enter the Aethereal Plane. He saw Rinn there and Rinn told him everything that had happened. Ander explained to him that he was now known as an Aethereal Hunter, someone who has access to the Aethereal and Material planes. This changed Rinn's life forever.

Rinn has had two animal companions over the course of his life that he ended up giving the Aethereal blood to so that they might accompany him on his travels. The first was a female black panther named Hiisie who later was taken and cared for by the goddess, Ornthala. The second companion he had was a male giant owl named Terestai who continues to serve him to this day.

Many people have heard tales of a group that works in the shadows bringing back the light; however, no one has ever seen them. The Order of the Misty Arrowhead is a group of talented individuals dedicated to protecting the Material and Aethereal Planes. The Order was founded by a ranger from the Emerald Enclave that fell into the grasp of a Phase Spider and gained some extraordinary abilities. The ranger went by the name of Rinn Liadon. Rinn decided to construct the Order to keep people safe around the realm. It started out with Rinn and 7 other Aethereal rangers who later became the Outriders of the Order. Only those with the power of the Aethereal in them can become an Outrider. The Order consists of rangers, rogues, fighters, and even a few wizards. Together they make an unstoppable force that watches over all who are in need. There are 5 different ranks within the Order that Rinn has created. Starting from lowest to highest: Scout, Sentinel, Vanguard, Outrider (only 7 allowed at one time), and Harbinger of the Aethereal. The Harbinger being Rinn himself.

Rinn eventually found the Phase Spider that gave him his gift. By this time, Rinn had studied the beast as well as its language. The spider presented itself as Cavatica. Rinn was able to convince Cavatica to dwell with the order and serve as an aid to the protection of the realms. The spider agreed to the terms and joined the brotherhood. Cavatica is used to grant the gift of the Aethereal to those who can survive its test. Those who survive become Outriders of the Order and could be next in line to becoming the Harbinger.

Rinn's Oathbow has a very unique story to it. Rinn's real father traveled a lot in his youth and found a hatred for orcs along the way. In his travels, he met some Dwarves who taught him how to fashion two Dwarven shortswords. These swords were brought to an enchanter and later a true-namer, who named them "Urkdrengi" and "Damnaz," meaning Orcslayer and Vengeance, respectively. These swords were lost in time until Rinn had his first encounter with his goddess, Ornthala. She presented the swords to him, which he graciously accepted. He brought the swords to his friend and traveling companion, Balamer, a master smith. He had him transform his fathers swords into something greater. After days of working in his forge and many rituals, Rinn received his swords in the form of a swordbow, a bow that can transform into his fathers swords. However, the bow had no string which puzzled Rinn. Balamer explained that the string will appear whenever Rinn wishes to fire and it will be a string made of his poisoned blood. Rinn put his hatred for Orcs as well as his own vengeance into his swordbow and eventually unlocked its true potential that Balamer had fashioned into it when he placed his runes. His bow became an Oathbow at this point and is now considered an artifact among the Order of the Misty Arrowhead and will eventually be passed down from Harbinger to Harbinger.

Rinn had another adventure that he generally keeps from all but his closest of friends:

"It all started two nights ago. I awoke to a powerful presence in my chambers. A presence that I didn’t know, yet felt drawn to. I slipped into the Aethereal and saw a figure standing there, staring at me, when all of the sudden it took off into a powerful sprint. I began chasing after it. I ran for many miles chasing after the incorporeal being when I noticed that I was going faster than usual. Before I knew it, everything around me started to bend. All of reality was tearing around me. A bright flash of light appeared before my eyes and I was then standing somewhere I knew all too well. I was in the Tanthalian Forest. It was my village. My family’s village. Still in ruins. I looked around at the familiar sights until I saw standing before me, the figure that brought me here. I asked why, of all places, I was brought here. The figure turned and said to me, “Because it is where you are from, my son.” I was taken aback by what he said. I asked him who he was. He said, “It’s not unusual for a boy who never got to know his father to recognize him at first sight.” It was my father. I had so many questions to ask him. But before he would answer any of them, he wanted to show me something. He walked towards me and placed his hand on my forehead. A vision appeared in my mind, but not just a vision, a memory. It was my own. I saw it all happen before me. My village under attack. The screams, the blood. My father stood in our living room with two Dwarven swords armed and ready to strike. My mother was holding me close to her chest trying to silence my crying. All of the sudden, our door was shattered to pieces. An orc, who now lies slain without a head, stood with a battleaxe covered in the blood of our neighbors. My father told my mother to run while he encountered the orc chieftain. My mother held me tight and ran with everything she could. I heard a scream of anguish come from where we ran... my father's. I closed my eyes and the next thing I knew my mother was setting me inside the hallow of a tree in the forest. She kissed me on my forehead and ran off. I heard her scream a few seconds later, and then there was nothing. The smell of smoke and the sounds of war horns. The memory ended and I stood there, feeling empty. My father told me that he was watching me my entire life. For every minute he was there, always supporting me. Aiding me, when necessary. He was even there when I avenged his death. It was all so much to take in. He began telling me about himself, so that I may finally know my father. He was a scholar. A man who loved to travel and learn all that he could. He told me how he lived with the dwarves for a time where he learned how to smith. He was the one who crafted the swords I use today. He then lived with the elves, who taught him to use the swords with precision and care. There was nowhere that he hasn’t traveled. He learned so many languages and cultures. He was the smartest man I’ve ever met, also the bravest. I wouldn’t be alive if it weren’t for him. I was absorbing all that I could. I wanted to learn everything from him. It was right then that he told me my true name: Grim Arroway. The sun began to rise and he took off his necklace and put it around my neck. The necklace was Aethereal, only visible when in that plane. He told me that it will help me understand things that I never could before. He then told me that he will always be with me and will appear again when I need him most. The sun blasted a blinding light and I was back in my room. I thought it was all a dream until I realized that I could feel something around my neck. I left my room to see that it was morning; however, it was the next morning. I was gone for over a day. I went off by myself and sat in prayer and thankfulness for the opportunity that I was given."

I hope you guys enjoyed my character. I have put so much into him and he means a whole lot to me. Let me know what you guys think, I would love to hear your feedback.

Prithee be careful,
The Owl  ðŸ¦‰
