Planescape: The Astral Plane
Well Met Travelers,
Welcome to another of my Planescape Posts. As you already know, these posts are designed to develop and inform readers about the various planes of existence in my homebrew world.
Last week, I covered the Dreamscape, a plane of Sleep and Unconcious thought.
This week, I am going to Discuss the Astral Plane. This is a plane of Conscious and methodical thought. This is a realm where the controlled and disciplined minds of wizards, monks, and the like excel and revel in the logical realm.
This plane is an expansive white void. This void is filled with a white mist and the landscape is populated and shaped by the thoughts of the residents of the plane and those traveling across the plane. The only constants on this plane are a limited number of Structures, which are the homes of the plane's most prominent residents. These Structures are the Great Library of Nimbe, The Castle of the Secret Keeper, The Home of Azuadol The Gracious, Expanding Spire.
The Great Library of Nimbe is the Home of Nimbe, the Dragon of thought. This Structure appears to be a 3-story Granite Structure built in the Classical Greko-Roman style similar to the Parthenon. Upon entering the structure, one can find that the structure is much larger on the inside. The inside stretches upward as far as the eye can see and is hundreds of feet long from end to end. The walls are book shelves, each book is titled a name. Along the walls are various desks with quills that write on their own. These quills record the thoughts of every mortal being, and the thoughts are then transported from the page into the book of the person who thinks it. Resting at the end of the Library is the pile of books upon which Nimbe Rests.
The Castle of the Secret Keeper is a great fortress Made of Iron. It is home to an entity known only as the Watcher of Lore. This castle is used to protect the information that no one was meant to see. This fortress holds the greatest collection of forbidden Knowledge.
The Home of Azuadol the Gracious is a Large Tudor-style townhouse. It houses an entity known as Azuadol the Gracious; he is a giver of knowledge. He shares a bountiful collection of information, which we mortals call Common Knowledge, but it is only common because he shares it. It is a three story town house with plenty of space for this man.
The Expanding Spire is a large tower of green glass-like crystal. This tower houses a spirit creature known as the Essence of Thought. This tower is a place where one can always find clarity of mind, and lost thoughts seem to magically appear here. The spire constantly grows upwards as lost thoughts enter.
There are only four creatures living in this plane of existence.
Nimbe
Nimbe is the Dragon of thought. He appears as a Furry, canine-like, Asian-style dragon. He is a cynical creature, for he knows every thought that every mortal thinks. When approached by a mortal, he will not allow that mortal to speak, rather, he will speak both sides of the conversation, mocking the person who approached him.
Nimbe may be cynical, but he is also very wise. He will share information with any creature who brings him information that he finds interesting. He is the immortal creature of this plane, passing the eons listening to the thoughts of every creatures.
The Watcher of Lore
The Watcher of Lore is a Knight Dressed in Silver armor Engraved with the Words "Et Arcana Occultanda", I am the Keeper of Secrets. His armor is trimmed with white and he wears a white tabard with the symbol of a locked book displayed upon it.
He is versed in both arcane and divine magic, and he has made it his solemn vow to seal away the information that the world is not meant to know.
Azuadol the Gracious
Azuadol is a portly looking dark-skinned man with white eyes. He is blind in these eyes. He has a wellspring of knowledge that we consider common, for he finds it as his duty to share this knowledge to all. He has some information that he considers rare that he will share with any who seek him out and promise to share it with those who would benefit from the knowledge.
The Essence of Thought
This enigmatic spirit dwells within the crystal form of his home. He has no form of his own and drifts idly through lost thoughts and muddled thoughts that enter his home. It is his duty to help clear the minds of those who find it hard to think and to find the lost thoughts of the forgetful.
I think that is all for the Astral Plane.
