Planescape: Aura

Well Met Travelers,

Welcome to another of my world building sessions. Last week, I covered the plane of Fire, Pyrah.

This week, I shall delve into the last of my mirror planes, Aura.  Aura is a plane of air and sky.

The landscape of Aura is composed of large and very ancient trees. These trees have grown into the shape of the continents of Antediluvian. What would be the oceans on Antediluvian is a vast open expanse. Those in the trees cannot see the bottom and many who have tried speculate that the trees may not have a bottom.

Seasons in Aura are complicated and wonderful. In the summer, all of the trees sprout with many different kinds of fruits. Autumn brings with it the changing of the leaves; the trees becoming the most wonderful of colors. Winter, contrary to popular belief, does not bring snow, instead, it brings clouds that settle upon the branches like snow. Spring brings massive flowers that bloom upon the trees.

Key Locations

Arborous Arboretum

This Lush Garden at the Top of the Most ancient tree is the home of Voxis the Airweaver. Most every plant grows here, and it is tended to by the Airweaver. Throughout this Garden are many birds and small creatures that please the Airweaver with their presence

Mewm Cloud

This one deserves a little explaining. Usually, when I write one of these, I ask Ivory.Queen for opinions or ideas. When I asked her about this plane, she told me about some small creatures that she saw in a dream. These small creatures were called Mewms, and these Mewms live on a cloud. This cloud is mostly solid, and these creatures make their society by burrowing in the cloud.

Tarrisa

Tarrisa is the city of the Horthrushes, or bird people of Aura. The construction of this city is very reminiscent of the Construction and monuments of ancient Egypt, but the iconography clearly shows that these people worship the known gods of Antediluvian and treat their royalty like Demi-Gods.

Nest of the Great Eagle

This nest build among the boughs of the Eagles' Tree is the home of the eagle king. This nest is woven out of branches of most of the trees and many gifts that are bestowed to him as a tribute for passing through his realm.

Whispering Hall

This marble Gazebo perched on the edge of a great tree. Carved at the Center of the floor is a message that says, "Ask and I shall Answer," in the tongue of Rayna. The Whispering Hall is inhabited by a Wind Spirit, who is in possession of the gift of prophecy. The spirit uses this gift to help those who come to its home asking for help.

Creatures Living in the Plane

Voxis the Airweaver

Voxis is the lord of elemental air and the immortal of this plane. He is by far the most benevolent of the elemental lords, often lending his age when begged, but he is also flighty and often carefree. He is the lesser god of air and bestows his power to many. Those who receive his power are often free to do as they will.

Air Elementals

The Children of Voxis, these creatures are made of wind and air. These creatures, much like mortal creatures of Antediluvian, have their own drives, their own ambitions, their own hates, their own loves.

Horthrushes

Horthrushes are the bird-people of the universe. They come in as many varieties as there are actual birds. These creatures worship the gods, but they also worship their leaders as Demigods with the power to transcend mortality, thus they mummify their leaders in hopes that the Airweaver will restore the dead to rule again.

Mewms

Mewms, the creatures that the Ivory Queen described to me. These are small white rodents with some form of sentience. They live in colonies in a similar manner to Prairie Dogs. They live on their Mewm cloud in relative peace as opposed to the rest of the world.

Great Eagles

The great Eagles are a race of intelligent Eagles that are much larger than their mundane counterparts. They are very territorial and pay homage to the Eagle King. These creatures roam the open sky and collect treasure. They are reluctant to meet with outsiders, but when their code of honor is invoked, they will not hesitate to parlay.

I think that is all for this time. As always, leave your thoughts in the comments, and if you want to see more from me, click the follow button in the sidebar.

Until Next Time,
Farewell and Safe Journeys, Travelers.
