Echos of Eldritch Major Players: Dogur Whurain

Hail fellow,

Today I will be talking about Dogur Whurain of Clan Whurain: Descendant of Yardin Whurain, Grandson of Khadgar Whurain, First of His Name, Slayer of Giants, High King Under the Mountain. Dogur was another character that I played.

Dogur was born to his father, Khelgar, at a small farm town on the southern coast of Blalthagon. Dogur grew up unaware of his royal status until he reached adulthood. His father told him the story of how his grandfather, Khadgar, was the High King Under the Mountain at Sunderhall. As a proud dwarven ruler, he led his people into many a battle and brought them victory and the spoils of war. Everything was lavish in the kingdom of Sunderhall until the Storm Giant Invasion. The city was ransacked and the army slaughtered everything in their way. The army consisted of ogres, ettins, and trolls led by the Storm Giant King, Vrelnar. King Vrelnar was an enemy to the dwarven kingdom of Sunderhall for centuries. Vrelnar went into hiding after the Giant Uprising to avoid slaughter, but left his hiding to pursue the destruction of the dwarven kingdoms. Since he was much larger than the ettins, trolls, and ogres, he had much sway over them and became their leader and amassed an army. Vrelnar killed Khadgar in combat, which forced Dogur's father into fleeing from the city.

Prince Khelgar chose to abandon his title as prince and live a life free from being discovered by the storm giants. He settled down as a animal herder and met a young dwarven woman that captured his heart. Harana was a bar maiden that was sweet on him when he first arrived. They fell in love and had three children: Dogur, Calgin, and Thrria. Dogur was the oldest sibling and was looked up to by his younger brother and sister, quite literally as well because Dogur stood at 5' (tall for a dwarf).

When Dogur learned that HE was to be the rightful High King of Sunderhall, he made an oath to return his home to the dwarves. His father taught him of the Artifacts of Whurain: a belt, gauntlets, and a hammer that his grandfather and his ancestors before him wielded with great might. Dogur knew that he would have to find these artifacts if he was to reclaim his throne and the home of his people. His father knew there was nothing he could do to stop his son, so he gave him a strong hug and gave Dogur his axe from his youth. The axe was finely sharpened and appeared to have not aged a day. Dogur thanked his father and took his leave.

Dogur started off by heading to the tavern where his mother worked to say goodbye to her. He told her what he planned to do and gave her a hug for all she's done for him. After saying his goodbyes to all of his family, he began to walk out of the tavern when a woman grabs his arm. She inquired about his quest and asked to join along. She had the appearance of a human yet something more than that. She introduced herself as Qaspiel, a cleric of Evelune. She persuaded Dogur to let her join him and in return she would offer her sword and her healing services. Dogur happily agreed and they set off.

The two, after traveling for many miles, arrived in the city of Amberville. They walked around when all of the sudden, they heard people shouting and rushed to see what had happened. The townsfolk were exclaiming that they had been robbed and have no clue who the culprit was. During the commotion, a small blue halfling with green hair appeared behind Dogur and reached for his coin pouch. Dogur turned right around and she froze where she stood. He scolded her for stealing and had her give everything back. Dogur asked for her name where she replied, "Seraphina Hilltopple." Dogur and Qaspiel were very taken aback by her blue-skinned nature when a very cynical wizard stormed over exclaiming, "THERE YOU ARE! I TOLD YOU NOT TO WANDER OFF WITHOUT ME!" He apologized for any inconveniences she might have caused them. His name was Tim, a mad wizard who had conducted many experiments that can be considered unorthodox, and in some cases, illegal, to those in the Highthornian Magocracy. One of those experiments he explained, turned Seraphina blue. Dogur invited the two to accompany him on his adventures, seeing a great need for a wizard and one with thievery skills.

The small party decided to take their travels to the seas. Dogur purchased a ship and a small crew, one of which was a drunken gunslinging pirate by the name of Rowan. Rowan also joined the party and went on the quest to reclaim Dogur's throne.

They went on many adventures together as they hunted for the Artifacts of Clan Whurain. These adventures led to making new friends, facing rivals, fighting giant creatures, obtaining a sentient golden giant's axe, and Dogur staring his god in the eyes in a staring contest and winning just because he wanted a pet elephant. The elephant's name is Kesavan, if you were wondering. After a while, Dogur began to find clues which led him to reclaiming his family heirlooms in which he wore so that he may wield the Hammer of Clan Whurain. He used these artifacts to slay the storm giant king that had usurped his kingdom.

This gave Dogur his title as king and he went on to rule fairly. Seraphina became his treasurer due to her love of shiny things and Dogur, of course, Tim became the court wizard, keeping him safe from the Highthornian Magocracy for his crimes, Qaspiel became the court cleric and started the first Temple of Evelune in Sunderhall, and not much is known about what Rowan went on to do. He is most likely at a bar somewhere with many women on his arms. King Dogur was later reached out to by the Brotherhood of the Whispering Ring, in which he became an honorary member and received his own ring, so that he could contact the other members.

A few quirks about Dogur that most people tend to realize about him when they meet him is that he speaks in third person. His most famous quote is: "Dogur does as Dogur pleases." Some people seem taken aback by his incorrect perspective on himself; however, not everyone seems to mind. Dogur also prefers to take the left-most route when traveling. This would often puzzle his party members greatly. If he was ever forced to go right, he would instead turn left until that path was on his left. Dogur absolutely hates when people talk slowly. It causes him much stress. Dogur was also a very avid consumer of alcohol and participated in every drinking competition he could. He became very good friends with Rowan who had a coat that was able to produce endless bottles of alcohol. Dogur also enjoys his food, preferably meat over vegetables. He will act somewhat childish when told to eat his veggies and will often play the "Dogur is king; therefore, Dogur does not have to listen" card. Dogur also has a very good way with speaking to people. He can talk people out of fighting and chooses to use diplomacy over his axe, if he can help it. These qualities tend to make people love Dogur the most as a person and as a King.

If you have further questions about the King of Sunderhall, feel free to ask!

By my troth, you will hear from me again,
The Owl  ðŸ¦‰
